About Tammy Nelson, MSW, RSW

Tammy Nelson is a compassionate and dedicated professional with a strong foundation in Indigenous and Western healing practices. A proud member of Peguis First Nation, she holds a Bachelor of Social Work (2010) and a Masters of Social Work with a focus on Indigenous Knowledge (2019) from the University of Manitoba. She is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Social Work and a graduate of the WHEAT Institute, where she earned certification in Indigenous Expressive Arts Therapy.
With a background in Child Welfare and specialization in Youth Exploitation Investigations, Tammy has contributed to initiatives addressing human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children and youth. She is the author of Mookii Mikinak: Traditional Road to Healing for Indigenous Women Who Experienced Sexual Exploitation. As an Indigenous woman, she integrates cultural and arts-based practices into her work with children and youth, remaining deeply connected to community and committed to culturally grounded healing and empowerment.
